Get to know the new Lopay Business Terminal Subscription

1. About the device

What is the Business Terminal device?

A standalone, WiFi-based, device with a 5.5-in touchscreen display, ideal for countertop payments and static businesses.

Simply enter a charge or select from your product grid and let your customer choose how to pay. The Business Terminal accepts all major card types using contactless, chip and PIN, and magstripe – plus mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay. And with point-to-point encryption built in, your customers’ card data is always protected.

  • Power supply: USB-C cable. Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery, 3.7V

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi (and Ethernet via Hub)

  • Payment methods: Magstripe, Chip (EMV), Contactless (EMV + NFC), Apple Pay, Google Pay

Do I need WiFi?

Yes, WiFi is required at all times. The Business Terminal does not have mobile connectivity so it is not suited to mobile businesses.

An Ethernet connection can be used with the Business Terminal Hub - available to purchase separately soon. It is also possible to tether from your smartphone but data costs may be incurred.

Can I print receipts?

The Business Terminal does not include a printer - however you can send an e-receipt from it via SMS or email. Alternatively, a separate printer that connects via Bluetooth will be available for purchase soon.

Do I need my phone as well as the Business Terminal?

The Business Terminal is a standalone device so when taking payments, your Business Terminal needs to be connected to WiFi, but not your smartphone.

However you do need the Lopay App on your smartphone to set up your Business Terminal and for some aspects of managing your Lopay account - e.g. editing your product grid, sending a payment link, managing team members, adding a bank account etc.

Please Note: It is not possible to send Payment Links from the Business Terminal. You will need to use the Lopay app on a mobile or table to send Payment Links.

How does the Business Terminal drive customer loyalty?

With payment loyalty on the Business Terminal you can reward your customers for loyal behaviour without requiring that they carry a loyalty card around or download an app. Your customers will be rewarded by simply paying with their usual way: card / phone / watch… However your customers want to pay.

How do I order the Business Terminal?

The Business Terminal is only available to order from within the Lopay app and after onboarding is complete. For more guidance please click here.

2. About the subscription

Does the Subscription include transaction fees?

The £15 per month subscription does not include our basic transaction fee (i.e. 0.79% if on Weekly schedule). For more detail on our fees, please click here.

What is the subscription term?

The Business Terminal is offered on a 12 month subscription term. The subscription payment is billed monthly on the closest day to your order date - so if your first payment was the 8th March, your next payment will be the 8th April, and each subsequent month thereafter.

The current subscription term will automatically renew for additional twelve-month periods unless either party gives the other written notice of termination at least thirty (30) days before expiration of the then-current Subscription Term.

What if I want to cancel?

If you wish to cancel your subscription, please contact [email protected] to first arrange the return of your Business Terminal.

Once the Business Terminal has been returned the contract can be cancelled. Please note;

  • if returned before the 12 month term end, early cancellation charges may apply

  • if the Business Terminal is not returned, or returned but damaged, you may be charged the full cost of the device

Any additional charges will be made to your payment card on file or deducted from your Lopay Account balance. Any overdue payments can also result in your Lopay Account being suspended until the payments have been settled.

What happens if my monthly payment fails?

You will receive email notifications to update your payment card and multiple payment attempts will be made. If your payment remains overdue the monthly payment will be deducted from your Lopay Account balance or your Lopay Account suspended until the payments have been settled.

What happens if my device is lost, stolen or damaged?

If your Business Terminal is lost or damaged, please contact [email protected] immediately to arrange a replacement. Additional charges may apply but we will do our utmost to get you a replacement within 48 hours.

What if my device is faulty?

If your Business Terminal is not working as expected, please contact [email protected]. If we cannot fix it remotely we will provide a free replacement and typically we can get this to you within 48 hours.

What is meant by 'eligibility criteria may apply'?

Lopay may request additional information about your business before confirming your Subscription.

3. About delivery & setup

How can I get a Lopay Business Terminal?

Once you've registered with Lopay and completed onboarding in the app, you can order your Business Terminal from the 'My Devices' tab. For more details please click here.

How long will it take to arrive?

Please allow 2-3 business days for your device to arrive.

Please note, we send our Business Terminals to you via a Royal Mail 'Signed For' service so you will need to be in to receive your device. You can find your Royal Mail tracking link in the app once your order is on its way.

How do I get started?

When your Business Terminal arrives you will need to connect it to WiFi and pair it with your Lopay Account. Please follow the step-by-step guide here to setup your device.

4. Other

How do I issue a refund from the Business Terminal?

You can refund a recent transaction via the Business Terminal itself:

1) Go to the 'Activity' tab (3rd icon at the bottom)

2) Select the required transaction under 'Recent Activity'

3) Confirm the transaction details and then select 'Refund' at the bottom of the screen

4) Enter the amount you wish to refund - this could be full or partial amount

5) Select 'Refund now' to confirm.

How do I change WiFi network or check my connection?

To view the WiFi network you are connected to or to connect to a different network please follow the steps below:

1) Go to the 'More' tab (4th icon at the bottom)

2) Select the 'Device Settings' and enter the PIN 07139

3) Select 'Network'

Can I set the screen to timeout?

Yes, simply follow the steps below:

1) Go to the 'More' tab (4th icon at the bottom)

2) Select the 'Device Settings' and enter the PIN 07139

3) Select 'Appearance' and then choose from the time options under Display timeout.

You can also adjust the screen brightness here or switch between Light and Dark themes.

How can I generate a new pairing code

To generate a new pairing code, simply follow the steps below:

1) Go to the 'More' tab (4th icon at the bottom)

2) Select the 'Device Settings' and enter the PIN 07139

3) Select 'Generate pairing code'

4) After entering the pair code into the Lopay app, the Business Terminal will need to be restarted
