Business Funding FAQs

Written by Sophie

Lopay Business Funding gives eligible merchants access to flexible funding through our trusted partners.

You can view any funding available to your business, compare the costs and repayment terms, and decide whether to proceed. Repayments are collected automatically from your card sales, so they move with your business.

How does Lopay Business Funding work?

We use information about your Lopay sales and business performance to show any funding you may be eligible for.

You can then:

  1. View your available offer

  2. Choose your funding amount

  3. Confirm your business details

  4. Review and sign the agreement

  5. Receive the funds in your bank account

  6. Repay automatically from your card sales

Viewing an offer does not commit you to taking the funding.

Who provides the funding?

Lopay is not a lender. Funding is provided by one of our lending partners:

  • Liberis, through its Flex Capital product

  • YouLend, through its Merchant Cash Advance

Your funding agreement is with the provider shown in your offer. Lopay displays the offer in the app and collects repayments from your sales on the provider’s behalf.

What funding products are available?

The product available to you depends on your business and the offer made by the funding provider.

Flex Capital from Liberis

Flex Capital gives you an available funding limit that you can draw from when your business needs it.

You can request funding from your available limit during the facility period. As advances are repaid, your available balance may replenish, allowing you to access further funding without setting up a completely new facility each time.

A fixed fee is shown each time you request funds.

Merchant Cash Advance from YouLend

A Merchant Cash Advance provides a single upfront amount that is repaid automatically as a percentage of your card sales.

The funding amount, fixed fee and total repayment amount are shown before you accept the offer.

Am I eligible for funding?

Eligibility is based on factors including your card sales, trading history, business performance and the provider’s lending criteria.

Checking is quick, and any available offer will appear in the Lopay app. Final approval remains subject to the provider’s checks and underwriting.

How much funding could I receive?

Your funding amount is tailored to your business.

You will be shown:

  • The amount available

  • The cost of the funding

  • How repayments will work

  • The funding provider

  • Any relevant terms or limits

The amount initially shown may change after the provider completes its checks.

Will checking my offer affect my credit score?

No. Checking your eligibility and viewing your available offer will not affect your credit score.

Further consumer or business credit searches may be carried out if you choose to complete a full application. These will be explained before you proceed.

How much will the funding cost?

All costs are shown clearly before you accept an offer.

Depending on the product, a fixed fee will apply either to the advance or each time you draw funding. You will be able to review the fee, repayment structure and total amount payable before deciding whether to continue.

There are no hidden charges from Lopay.

How are repayments made?

Repayments are collected automatically as an agreed percentage of your Lopay card sales.

This means:

  • You repay more when sales are higher

  • You repay less when sales are lower

  • There is no fixed monthly repayment to remember

  • Repayments are deducted automatically before your remaining sales balance is paid out

The repayment percentage will be shown before you accept the funding.

How long do I have to repay the funding?

This depends on the product and the performance of your business.

For a YouLend Merchant Cash Advance, the maximum repayment period is typically 12 months, with many advances expected to be repaid within six to nine months.

For Liberis Flex Capital, the available funding facility typically remains open for 12 months. Advances are repaid through the agreed percentage of your card sales.

Your specific terms will be shown in your offer and agreement.

How do I apply?

You can access Business Funding through the Lopay app.

Tap the funding banner on your home screen, or open the funding section through your app menu. You will then be able to:

  1. View your available offer

  2. Select the funding amount

  3. Confirm your details

  4. Complete any provider checks

  5. Review and sign the agreement

You are not committed until you accept and sign the funding agreement.

Why can’t I see a funding offer in the Lopay app?

Business Funding may not appear if:

  • Funding is not currently available in your region

  • Your account does not currently meet the providers’ eligibility criteria

  • There is not enough trading history available

  • A previous offer has expired or been withdrawn

  • The provider’s assessment of your business has changed

Offers are subject to status and underwriting and may change over time. We will notify you in the Lopay app if funding becomes available.

How quickly could I receive the funding?

Funding can be paid into your bank account in as little as 24 hours, depending on your provider, application and circumstances.

The expected timing will be confirmed after your application has been approved and the agreement has been signed.

What can I use the funding for?

You can use the funding for most legitimate business purposes, including:

  • Purchasing stock

  • Buying or upgrading equipment

  • Renovating your premises

  • Marketing your business

  • Hiring staff

  • Managing seasonal or short-term cash flow

Am I committed if I view an offer?

No. You can review the funding amount, provider, costs and repayment terms before deciding whether to proceed. Viewing an offer does not require you to accept it.

Can I access more funding later?

This depends on your product and provider.

Liberis Flex Capital

You may be able to draw further advances from your available funding limit. As repayments are made, your available balance may replenish.

Further funding remains subject to your available limit, business performance and Liberis’ criteria.

YouLend Merchant Cash Advance

You may become eligible for additional funding after repaying part of your existing advance. YouLend typically reviews eligibility once around 60% has been repaid, although other criteria also apply.

You will be notified through the Lopay app or by email if another offer becomes available.

Can I repay the funding early?

The options differ by provider.

YouLend

You can make additional one-off payments without an extra charge. You can also continue repaying automatically through the agreed percentage of your card sales.

Liberis

Early lump-sum repayments are not currently supported. Repayments continue through the agreed deductions from your card sales until the advance has been repaid.

How can I track my repayments?

You can view your funding balance and repayment progress through the Lopay app.

Depending on your provider, you may also be able to view additional information through the provider’s dashboard. Provider dashboards may take some time to reflect recent transactions.

What happens if my sales are lower than expected?

Because repayments are calculated as a percentage of your card sales, the amount collected automatically reduces when your sales are lower.

If repayments fall significantly behind the provider’s expected progress, the provider may contact you to understand your circumstances and discuss the available options.

What if I stop trading temporarily or go away?

If your card sales reduce because you are taking a holiday, closing temporarily or experiencing a quieter period, your automatic repayments will also reduce.

The provider may contact you if repayments are progressing more slowly than expected. You should explain the reason and keep them informed about when you expect trading to resume.

What happens if I refund a transaction?

If a repayment has already been collected from a card transaction, refunding that transaction may not automatically reverse the funding repayment.

The amount collected will normally remain credited against your outstanding funding balance. Contact [email protected] if this creates an issue, and we will help review it with the relevant provider.

Can I move an existing YouLend advance to Lopay?

YouLend may be able to move the repayment collection for an existing advance from another payment provider to Lopay.

Contact YouLend and ask for an Opening Account Letter. They will explain how to update the payment account linked to your advance.

YouLend can be contacted at:

Telephone: +44 (0) 203 827 2870
Email: [email protected]
