An introduction to Tap to Pay on your Android phone. For information on how to set up Tap to Pay, click here.

What is Tap to Pay?

With Tap to Pay you can use your phone to take payments, without the need for a card reader or additional hardware. Customers simply tap their contactless card or device to your phone to pay.

Tap to Pay uses your phone’s NFC (Near Field Communication) to allow you to take contactless payments.

In the context of your transactions, it’s important to be aware that using an RFID-blocking phone case might interfere with the NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality on your phone. NFC is essential for contactless transactions, including tap-to-pay payments. Therefore, it’s advisable to avoid cases that may disrupt these signals to ensure seamless and secure transactions.

RFID stands for Radio-Frequency Identification, and an RFID phone case typically contains material that blocks radio signals.

How much does it cost?

When using Tap to Pay, you will pay your usual transaction fee based on your account and payout schedule, plus 8p per transaction.

Will Tap to Pay work on my phone?

For your phone to support Tap to Pay, you will need to enable NFC. You will be able to find whether your phone supports NFC in the phone settings.

In addition, your phone must have operating system Android 11 or higher for Tap to Pay to work.

Please find below a list of supported devices.

How can my customers pay?

With Tap to Pay your customers can make contactless payments using physical debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. They can simply tap their card or phone like they would with a card reader.

Please note: Chip & PIN payments are not possible with Tap to Pay on Android. Payments that exceed a customer's contactless limit (typically £100 but it may be less) cannot be taken using Tap to Pay on Android.

Can I still use other payment methods?

Yes. Once you've set up Tap to Pay you can still use other payment methods available with Lopay such as a card reader or payment links.
